Flash Medical Center Returns to Kent State Ashtabula Oct. 14th

ASHTABULA, OHIO 鈥 Flash Medical Center, a one-day hands-on experience for high school students interested in a healthcare-related field, returns to 5X社区 at Ashtabula for the fourth year on Friday, October 14, 2022.

Each year over 20 students from Ashtabula and Lake Counties participate in the selective event, which transforms Robert S. Morrison Hall into a 鈥渉ospital鈥 and simulates a 鈥渄ay in the life鈥 of health care workers in the areas of nursing, radiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy and respiratory care.  Activities involved a simulated injury, patient transfers, use of X-ray machinery and patient recovery and therapy.

Flash Medical Center is designed to provide a 鈥渃rash course鈥 for students interested in pursuing education and a career in healthcare related fields.

鈥淭he experience provided through Flash Medical Center gives participating students the opportunity to be fully engaged in a real live case scenario that encompasses all aspects of care of an injured patient from onset of accident through recovery,鈥 said Tiffany Kiphart, PTA, ATC, M.Ed., academic program director for the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Kent State Ashtabula. 鈥淭he students will participate in the care of the patient through all of Kent State Ashtabula鈥檚 allied health offerings and learn about potential career opportunities.鈥

Additionally, students who attend will have the opportunity to apply for an exclusive scholarship.

Registration is limited to the first 25 students (with a wait list). Interested students are encouraged to apply for the limited number of spaces available soon at www.kent.edu/ashtabula/flashmed.
