Updates in RED (Feb. 2, 2018)
The School of Communication Studies is now accepting applications for undergraduate and graduate scholarships to be awarded for the 2018-2019 school year.
To apply for one of the COMM scholarships, visit . Students must log in using their FlashLine credentials to complete the scholarship application. The submission deadline has been extended to FRIDAY, MARCH 2.
Before submitting the application and uploading supporting documentation, students should review the individual scholarship requirements. All scholarships must include:
- Completed application form
- GPA as of the previous semester
- UPDATE: The names of two faculty members who can serve as references, if necessary
Individual scholarships may require additional materials, such as samples of work, essays or statements of need.

Arnold and Dorothy Danes Book Scholarship
The scholarship is intended for a global communication student who has demonstrated academic excellence and an interest in being a citizen of the world through knowledge and action. It is given in memory of Arnold and Dorothy Danes, who were first-generation Americans with a passion for 5XÉçÇø and the world.
Michael Dubetz Endowed Scholarship
The Michael Dubetz Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to a junior communication studies major exhibiting strong leadership and personal achievement.
The Feezel Family Scholarship for Global Students
The Feezel Family Scholarship for Global Students is awarded to a junior, senior or graduate communication studies student who is participating in a 5XÉçÇø sponsored study aboard program.
Garmon-Murvay Scholarship
This scholarship is given to a student with junior standing (60 credit hours) and a G.P.A. of 3.0.
Nancy E. Mitchell Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes students who have chosen to balance the requirements of academic study with efforts to make a meaningful contribution in service to others. Throughout their college careers, these students have established a sustained record of academic excellence; maintained a consistent record of active involvement in service to their campus and/or community; and provided effective leadership for organizations or groups engaged in service activities.
Rebecca & Alan Rubin Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is given annually to a student who shows strong academic performance, motivation, character, ability and potential.
School of Communication Memorial Scholarship (Recognizing those who have made significant contributions to the school – in which donations were made in their names – such as Lawrence W. Hugenberg and Scheffel & Dorothy Pierce)
This scholarship is presented to students who exhibit strong scholarly effort and/or service during their time at 5XÉçÇø.

The D. Ray and Susanne E. Heisey Endowed International Scholarship Fund
The D. Ray and Susanne E. Heisey Endowed International Scholarship Fund is given to encourage international students who have demonstrated the capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, the motivation to achieve these goals, and the initiative to seek opportunities to further their progress.
Dr. Dominic A. Infante Communication Scholarship
Dr. Dominic Infante Communication Scholarship is awarded to a student for the second year of the Master of Arts program in the School of Communication Studies who is on schedule for completing the master's degree. Preference will be granted to a student who is judged by the graduate faculty to be a good prospect for matriculating into the Ph.D. program.
A committee of faculty members and others appointed by the COMM director will select the scholarship recipients. Recipients will be notified by email in late March and recognized at the school’s annual awards reception in April. Direct questions regarding scholarships to comm@kent.edu.
