Communication Studies Student Leads Delta Zeta’s Annual Lip Sync Competition

Madison Woodard led the effort of Delta Zeta’s annual Lip Sync competition on Sunday, Feb. 26. The event was a huge success, raising over $51,000 for the .

Woodard is a junior communication studies major, concentrating in health communication with a minor in interpersonal communication.

Organizing the event was a big task, with Woodard working with sponsors, facilities, campus officials, chapter members and 26 Kent State Greek organizations. The successful event involved 21 Kent State Greek chapters competing in three categories of performance, fundraising and overall. Chapters competed with a lip sync performance, as well as incorporating Delta Zeta history and foundations into a choreographed skit. Additionally, the St. Augustine Church’s signing choir performed.

“I feel ecstatic and so proud of my sorority and my community to be able to donate such an incredible amount of money! The fact that we are able to provide hearing assistance to those in need is such an amazing feeling,” Woodard said. “It is not just about a monetary donation. Educating the community, showing support and ultimately ‘giving graciously of what is ours’ is what I am most proud about.”

Kent State’s Delta Zeta chapter has increased its fundraising for the annual Lip Sync competition over five times. The chapter has been nationally recognized for its efforts as one of the top fundraisers for the foundation.
