Jennifer Rivera, a doctoral student in the School of Health Sciences, was recently awarded her second National Strength and Conditioning Association's (NSCA) Foundation Graduate Student Research Grant for nearly 15,000.
The grant program funds graduate research in strength and conditioning that is consistent with the mission of the NSCA.
Rivera will use the funds to support her dissertation, entitled "The Effects of Cold-Water Immersion Timing on Athletic Performance and Recovery," which will observe inflammatory markers that play a pivotal role in mediating recovery and skeletal muscle growth following resistance exercise.
She will specifically observe how a cold-water immersion recovery intervention may alter these processes and explore how adopting the intervention relative to the inflammatory response, rather than immediately post exercise, may elicit greater potential for a more favorable response in the inflammatory process and preserve athletic performance.
