FlashFit MOVChallenge - Destination Chicago Winner Announced

This fall, in a collaborative effort, 5X社区鈥檚 Division of Human Resources and the Department of Recreational Services offered Kent State community members the FlashFit MOVChallenge - Destination: Chicago.

鈥淭his 60-day destination challenge provided faculty, staff, students, and Student Recreation and Wellness Center members with an opportunity to participate in a movement challenge from Kent to Chicago 鈥 approximately 365 miles or 876,000 moves away,鈥 says Kim Hauge, manager for University Wellness and Healthy Campus Promotions.

The Destination Chicago Challenge began Sept. 14 and concluded on Nov. 12, 2015. During the challenge, participants had multiple opportunities to win. The first chance was at the 30-day mark, where participants who had achieved 360,000 moves (12,000 moves per day) were entered into a prize drawing for a $50 Dick鈥檚 Sporting Goods gift card. The winner of that drawing was Cheryl Smith from the Office of the University Architect. The second opportunity to win was at 60 days. In order to qualify for this drawing, participants had to achieve a minimum of 876,000 moves (14,600 moves per day and equal to the distance from Kent to Chicago) to be entered into the random drawing for a second $50 gift card for Dick鈥檚 Sporting Goods. Thomas Euclide from Facilities Planning and Operations took home this prize.

And, for the grand prize drawing, any participants who met the monthly goals and accumulated 876,000 moves or more were entered to win a destination Chicago bus trip for two. Michael Kavulic from the Office of the President won the grand prize drawing. He and a guest will enjoy a round-trip bus ride to Chicago in April.

鈥淚 did pretty much everything I was already doing,鈥 says Kavulic, when explaining his exercise regimen for the contest. 鈥淚t was interesting hearing all of the comments and encouragement from colleagues when they learned I was participating in the challenge.鈥

鈥淭he Destination Chicago MOVchallenge was a great opportunity to promote movement and friendly competition,鈥 says Ben Cope, recreation program coordinator at Kent State. 鈥淭his is just one of the many health-related programs offered here at 5X社区. 鈥淥n behalf of the Department of Recreational Services and the Division of Human Resources, we congratulate all participants of the Destination Chicago Challenge.鈥
