Knight Foundation Recognizes WKSU as Trusted News Source With $25,000 Challenge Grant

WKSU has been chosen to participate in the Knight News Match, a challenge-grant program administered by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation that acknowledges the station鈥檚 value as a trusted news source. The foundation will match all individual donations in amounts up to $1,000 made to WKSU now through Jan. 19. The grant will be capped at $25,000.

WKSU is one of 57 nonprofit news organizations selected for the Knight News Match, which was launched in an effort to counter the effects of 鈥渇ake news鈥 and unchecked misinformation on social media and beyond.

WKSU is using this opportunity to reach out to the dedicated community of news lovers who turn to the station for reliable, in-depth, fact-based reporting. This grant has the potential to encourage first-time donations and allow the station to connect more deeply with listeners living in Northeast Ohio, says WKSU General Manager Wendy Turner.

鈥淭his unexpected support helps to shed light on the importance of trustworthy news sources and their essential value to communities,鈥 Turner says. 鈥淲KSU has earned the trust of Northeast Ohio with its decades-long commitment to fact-based enterprise reporting that serves the public interest. We are energized by the opportunity the Knight Foundation has given us and the Akron community!鈥

The Knight Foundation鈥檚 objective states, 鈥淭he Knight News Match is a call to action for everyone who believes in quality, trustworthy, in-depth journalism and the role nonprofit news organizations play in building strong communities.
