5X School of Fashion alumna Isabella Diorio is continuing to make a name for herself in the fashion design world.
Diorio’s senior thesis collection “F.E.T.” (Female Engagement Team), took home multiple awards at the 2020 International Design Awards (IDA) virtual event in January.
Diorio took home Silver in three categories: Apparel Category - Runway Collections; Textile and Materials – Handmade; and Other Fashion Designs - Recycle/Sustainable Fashion.
“F.E.T.” uses upcycled military uniforms and other sustainable materials to create an environmentally-friendly collection, bringing awareness to the growing number of female vets in the homeless population. “F.E.T” was crowned Best in Show in the School of Fashion’s 2020 Annual Fashion Show. Her collection also received further international recognition when she was chosen as one of 33 finalists from 14 countries to compete in the virtual 2020 iD International Emerging Designer Awards, in Dunedin, New Zealand.
This collection has gone so much farther than I thought it would and has grown even closer to my heart now that my brother is an active service member,” said Diorio. “I'm excited for more people to see my work and to hear the message that accompanies it. Everything that has happened and that continues to happen with this collection is so unexpected, and I'm at a point where I don't have words to express how happy I feel.”
