Please give a short overview of your research.

I am a cultural historian who is currently conducting research on the nationalistic significance of the monetary iconography (e.g. the pictures on paper dollars) that was featured on Civil War-era Union and Confederate currencies.

  2. What made you choose to pursue your graduate degree here at Kent State?

I chose to study at Kent State because of its excellent Civil War history program as well as the opportunity to publish my work under the university鈥檚 renowned academic press.

  3. What do you enjoy most about attending Kent State for graduate school?

I think perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of attending Kent State is the amount of encouragement that I鈥檝e received regarding my research and the completion of this project.

  4. What are your future goals?

I would ultimately like to become a tenure-track college professor; however, I am leaving my options open to include the possibility of pursuing a position as preparatory high school history instructor. Regardless, I fully intend to incorporate my passion for teaching into my plans.

  5. What does this award mean to you and how will it aid you?

I am very honored to be a recipient of this award because it indicates that the university undeniably believes in my ability as both a writer and a researcher. This aids me by not only allotting me the time necessary to complete this project thoroughly and methodically, but provides me the confidence required to undertake a career as a regularly publishing academic as well.
