Meet Javadbay Khalizade, a University Fellowship recipient. Javadbay is a Political Science Ph.D. student with a Transnational and Comparative Politics concentration.
Please give a short overview of your research.
I am majoring in Transnational and Comparative Politics and my research examines the survival strategies of authoritarian regimes. Unlike, democratic countries where governments are elected as a result of the persuasion of voters in free and fair elections, authoritarian countries do have not free and fair elections, but they also seek the support of population and legitimacy. So, I examine what strategies authoritarian regimes use to survive and how they extend their persistence. Specifically, I examine the post-soviet countries where authoritarian regimes survive and compare them to regimes that failed to survive to measure my hypothesis.
What made you choose to pursue your graduate degree here at Kent State?
I was familiar with the research of faculty members and professors in my department. Particularly, having an expert like Dr. Andrew Barnes and his research in the region I focus on was the main factor for me to choose 5X社区 as a place to conduct my research to earn my doctoral degree.
What do you enjoy most about attending Kent State for graduate school? and/or What do you anticipate taking advantage of at KSU?
The first and foremost thing I enjoy is the inclusiveness of Kent State and its friendly professors and faculty of the Political Science department and their support to me for my academic development.
What are your future goals?
My goal is to develop myself as a good educator and scholar. I aim to work at a research institution so that I can continue my academic research as an educator and scholar.
What does this award mean to you and how will it aid you?
