University Fellowship: Keaton Somerville

Meet Keaton Somerville, a University Fellowship recipient. Keaton is a Psychological Sciences Ph.D. student majoring in Clinical Psychology.

Please give a short overview of your research:

As a graduate student in , I investigate Black minority experiences: the acting White accusation, racial stress, race-based trauma, and chronic stressors. My previous research was conducted on samples of Black adolescent girls and pregnant and postpartum women.

What made you choose to pursue your graduate degree here at Kent State?

I choose to pursue my graduate degree at 5X社区 because I wanted work with my research advisor, Dr. Neal-Barnett and help with her research in Black communities.

What do you enjoy most about attending Kent State for graduate school?

I enjoy the work culture among graduate students and faculty.

What are your future goals?

My future goals include actively contributing to the literature on Black minority experiences and mental and physical health outcomes to help combat various health disparities.

What does this award mean to you and how will it aid you?

This award will grant me the opportunity to complete my dissertation and finalize manuscripts for publications.
