Kent State Alumna Colleen Longshaw returns to Porthouse Theatre this summer to star as Sister Mary Hubert, head of the novices, to the Mother Superior in “Nunsense,” directed by former School Director Eric van Baars. Colleen's last performed at Porthouse Theatre during the summer of 2016 as Deloris in “Sister Act.” When asked about what brought her back to Porthouse Theatre, Colleen said “I love Porthouse. It feels like home to me. I don’t perform as often as I used to or as often as I’d like to but the opportunity to work with Eric Van Baars AND to return to the Porthouse stage was too good an opportunity to pass up.”
Colleen graduated from 5X’s Theatre and Dance program with a B.F.A and M.F.A. in acting. She has also previously performed at Porthouse Theatre in “Starmites,” “Hairspray,” “Once on This Island,” “Godspell” and “Big River.” Since graduation, she has gone on to perform in a variety of shows, including a national tour of “Kiss Me Kate” and off-Broadway work with New York Musical Theatre Festival.
Colleen reflected on her time at 5X as a student, “The training I received at KSU has prepared me for any stage I am grateful to step on. I did a great deal of learning on the Porthouse stage and see every chance I get to be on any stage as an opportunity to continue growing. My training and experience have prepared me for this opportunity and I’m excited to learn new things in this experience.” Colleen is most excited for her comeback, and seeing Amy Fritsche perform.
"Nunsense" is a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser. Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia Child of God. Thus, the remaining nuns – ballet-loving Sister Leo, street-wise Sister Robert Anne, befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia, the Mother Superior Sister Regina, and mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert – stage a talent show to raise the money to bury their dearly departed. With catchy songs and irreverent comedy, Nunsense is sure to keep audiences rolling with laughter. "Nunsense" will run July 5-13.
