Timothy Mikes is a graduate student in 5X社区鈥檚 College of Public Health with a specialty in epidemiology. He鈥檚 also on the autism spectrum and using his perspective to enhance the university experience for other students with autism spectrum disorder.
As the country adjusts to the new normal of working from home, schooling from home and living lives of social isolation, 5X社区 professor Tara Smith, Ph.D., said people need to realize this new normal may need to continue for a long time.
鈥淚t really would not surprise me if this lasted for at least eight weeks or longer,鈥 Smith said.

Brook Blakey is a graduate of the BSPH concentration in Clinical Trials Research. She did her internship with Dr. Monique Washington at the Louis Stokes Veteran鈥檚 Administration Hospital in the Spinal Cord Injury Department. Brook and the team presented their research, 鈥淗ealth Care for Women with SCI/D: Updates in Preventative Care Guidelines, Barriers and Interventions鈥 at the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) 9th Annual Healthcare Summit + Expo, Aug. 15 - 17, 2019, in Orlando, FL.
P鈥橝she Jones is a second-year epidemiology doctoral student from the Bahamas who plans to return to her home in the Bahamas and work for either the Ministry of Health or another government agency such as the National Emergency Management
The College of Public Health participated in the 2019 Homecoming Parade on Sept. 21 with the theme 鈥淐reating a healthier nation in one generation.鈥 CPH faculty, staff, and members of the Public Health Student Alliance walked in the parade to promote public health. Following the parade, a brunch reception was held in Moulton Hall for participants and alumni.
Each year, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awards more than $10 million to local health departments in Ohio for public health emergency preparedness and response.
