5X社区 at Stark commemorates Earth Day 2018 with a free, family friendly celebration on the campus.
Set to inspire environmental responsibility and to improve the appreciation for our planet鈥檚 natural resources, Kent State Stark鈥檚 Earth Day Celebration will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Campus Center lot and the Pond and Wetlands Research Area.
Attendees will enjoy an afternoon filled with educational activities, entertainment, demonstrations and discussions for all ages.
Kent State Stark has partnered with the following sponsors to present Earth Day 2018: The Repository, The Print Shop of Canton, Inc., The Brewer-Garrett Company and Cain Toyota.
The event, in its 10th year, will include family favorites, such as a nature walk led by Biology Professor Robert Hamilton, a children鈥檚 area with face painting, mock fossil digs, crafts, a coloring contest, photo opportunities and much more.
Singer Foster Brown will again perform original children鈥檚 nature songs, Mike Salvino will hold a magic show based on recycling, and entomologist Jim Smolka will display his extensive collection of mounted insects from around the world, as well as live specimens that include spiders, scorpions, centipedes and millipedes.
New participants this year include the Jackson Township Fire Department, Environmental Education Council of Ohio, Canton Museum of Art and Habitat for Humanity ReStore, among others.
Also new this year, the campus has transitioned to making the Earth Day Celebration a low-waste event. From pre-event activities and promotion, to encouraging exhibitors to make changes to post-event clean up and waste removal, participants will be mindful of lessening the amount of waste generated.
