5X社区 has conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree on alumnus Earl K. Miller, Ph.D., a world-renowned neuroscientist.
Miller, BA 鈥85, is a professor at MIT, and has made pioneering contributions to our understanding of how the brain accomplishes complex cognition, laying the foundation for understanding dysfunctions of the brain such as those that occur in autism, schizophrenia and attention deficit disorder.
Miller and his wife, Marlene M. Wicherski, have pledged $2 million to create three scholarships and an endowed professorship in neuroscience at Kent State. Miller received his undergraduate degree in psychology at Kent State in 1985.
Kent State President Todd Diacon conferred the degree, Doctor of Science, honoris causa, in a virtual ceremony held recently to honor Miller for his preeminent contributions to the field of neuroscience and for his inspiring example to all Golden Flashes.
鈥淚t鈥檚 so wonderful to be honored by institutions that I love so much. Kent State changed my life and I鈥檒l always carry it in my heart,鈥 Miller said of the honor.
