The Office of Continuing Education offers a wide range of graduate-level workshops in conjunction with the College of Education, Health, and Human Services.


What is a workshop?

A workshop is a credit or noncredit activity that focuses on a participant's professional tasks. Instructional emphasis is given to mastery and applications of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that address a narrowly defined range of problems or issues related to practice.

All credit workshops are graded satisfactory/unsatisfactory (S/U).

Workshops can be scheduled on an as-needed basis in response to industry or profession-specific trends and issues.

When are workshops offered?

Workshops are offered year-round. They may be flexibly scheduled as they do not need to fit into the standard University schedule.

Are workshops face-to-face or online?

Both! Workshops may be held on a Kent State campus, on-site at area schools, businesses, libraries, etc., be fully online or in a hybrid format.

Can I earn real University credits?

Yes, credit workshops award Kent State credit hours. Please note that workshops are graded satisfactory/unsatisfactory (S/U) and will appear on your transcript as a workshop.

Note: Degree programs typically have an established maximum on the number of workshop credits that may be used towards program completion.

Will workshop grades be included on my transcript?

Yes, to request a transcript reflecting all credits earned visit the Transcript Request page.

What is required to successfully complete a credit workshop?

Credit workshop registrants must participate fully, attend and complete all in-person or online activities, and submit all assignments, as detailed in the workshop syllabus. Failure to do so may result in a grade of unsatisfactory (U)鈥攚hich will be counted as an F (zero quality points) in your grade point average.

Can I earn a letter grade?

No, all credit workshops have Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading.

Can I use workshop credits to renew my teaching license?

You may be able to use the credit hours earned in workshops to renew your license. We recommend checking with your district professional development committee.

Do I get a transcript for completing a noncredit workshop?

No, participants in noncredit workshops typically receive a certificate.
