Internships

Graduate students may opt to complete the internship as part of their Culminating Requirement, which is a supervised experience related to the chosen graduate program.

Internship Resources

General Requirements
  • You must be in Good Academic Standing, with a GPA above 3.0 for graduate students
  • You must complete at least 18 hours of graduate coursework
  • You should not accept any offers for CPT unless you have approval from the Internship instructor an CPT coordinator in the department
Timelines
  • You must start early in  planning for a Graduate Internship and  CPT
  • The deadline to submit your application for CPT and Internship is the First Day of the Start of the Classes
  • The approval process for the Internship application and CPT application may take more than a week
Internship Offer Letter

A student must obtain an internship offer from a company, an institution, an organization, or a governmental agency before enrolling in the Internship course. It is essential that the student's work be related to and complementary to his or her formal education. An internship offer letter should include several important details about the position, including:

  • Name of the company.
  • Dates the internship program will begin and end.
  • Expected work schedule during the internship program.
  • The evaluation process of the assignments
  • Details about whether the position will be paid or unpaid (we strongly recommend that the position will be paid as a way to be assessed internally).
  • Legal disclosures, such as non-compete and nondisclosure agreements.
  • Name of the supervisor or manager who will oversee the position and his/her contact.
  • Acceptance statement and signature section with a response deadline.
Next Steps

The following steps must be taken to participate in the optional internship program:

  • It is important to consult with your advisor to determine whether this is an appropriate time to participate in an internship program.
  • There is a possibility that this process may take more than one week. In order to avoid any potential delays, we ask that you plan in advance.
  • Receive an offer letter from an organization outlining the details and nature of the related work, as well as the terms and conditions of the employment.
  • Fill out the . You need to log in with your Flash authentication.
  • Send a copy of the offer letter to the:
    • Instructor of the Internship course (currently  Dr. Delozier,  gdelozie@kent.edu.
    • CPT/OPT coordinator (currently, Dr. Peyravi, hpeyravi@kent.edu) for International students.
  • Carefully read the CPT and OPT policies and restrictions.
  • After being approved by the CPT coordinator, you may complete the CPT form with the International Office ( and in the Request Center, complete the Curricular Practical Training Request).
