Dr. Mary Russell, Professor of Biological Sciences at the Trumbull campus, is being recognized this month for her commitment to improving her students' experiences while engaging in scholarship that investigates pedagogically sound teaching and learning strategies. She was selected for the Belonging Champions pilot cohort, and has been engaged as a Community of Transformation facilitator in that program since January 2024. Additionally, she is an important part of this year's Teaching Scholars cohort, and she will be presenting on her Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project at the spring Regional Campus Faculty Mentoring Retreat. Shayna is being recognized for going above and beyond as a graduate student instructor. She consistently participates in CTL workshops to engage more deeply with her teaching practice and reflect on opportunities to improve her students’ experiences. In just the past couple of months, she has earned two teaching badges as part of the Graduate College Badging Program and three Teaching Recognition Awards from the CTL, as well as completing her AI-Ready Educator Recognition. Shayna has demonstrated a clear commitment to constructing student-centered, belonging-focused classroom environments to support her learners.
