Audiology (Au.D.)

Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.)

The School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at The University of Akron and the Program of Speech Pathology and Audiology at 5X社区, in affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, have united to provide a professional doctoral program, the Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium. NOAC is jointly administered by the two universities.

The consortium seeks to: (1) Prepare audiologists through professional education and clinical training who can diagnose, manage and treat individuals with hearing and balance disorders; (2) Enhance service to the professional community through the leveraging of continuing education, mentoring, consulting and joint research; and (3) Provide for research and clinical service through entrepreneurship and external funding.

Communication Sciences and Disorders (Ph.D.)

Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders

The Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders is a research-intensive degree that requires a strong desire to develop a research career. Our program allows students to flexibly create a program of study that meets their needs with emphases ranging from primarily clinical and applied to basic research.

The Ph.D. program in Communication Sciences and Disorders uses a mentorship model, such that prospective students should identify a research faculty mentor they are interested in working with.

Exercise Physiology (M.S.)

Master of Science in Exercise Physiology

The M.S. in Exercise Physiology prepares students for a wide variety of career options within the field of exercise physiology, including exercise prescription and research, as well as doctoral study. The M.S. in Exercise Physiology is a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Education Recognition Program. The Athletic Training concentration is designed to serve the needs of post-certification (or certification-pending) students who wish to further their knowledge and skills in the athletic training profession while pursuing a master's degree. Students have the opportunity to pursue advanced clinical and academic training while obtaining knowledge and skills relative to effective clinical instruction and supervision.

Exercise Physiology (Ph.D.)

Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology

The mission of the Exercise Physiology doctoral program is to develop the competencies that are needed for someone who intends to teach exercise physiology, pursue research, or apply exercise physiology in practice. The doctorate represents competency in a specialized area. The Ph.D. curriculum is designed to develop competencies which we feel are essential for someone who intends to teach exercise physiology, pursue research or apply exercise physiology in practice. It emphasizes human and mammalian physiology.

Health Education and Promotion (M.Ed.)

Master of Education in Health Education and Promotion

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) program in Health Education and Promotion (HEDP) is designed to enable individuals to pursue their diverse interests in the field while addressing the competencies essential to the professional development of health educators. Students can choose one of two concentrations: Community Health and School Health Additional Licensure. Students enter the master's program from various backgrounds, including health education, nursing, gerontology, sociology, psychology, allied health, nutrition, and environmental studies.

Health Education and Promotion (Ph.D.)

Ph.D. in Health Education and Promotion

The Ph.D. in Health Education and Promotion emphasizes the interaction among the theoretical, empirical, and applied nature of health education. Although the program is designed for persons whose primary identity is that of a health educator, applicants are drawn from a variety of fields including health education, nursing, nutrition, the medical technologies, and social sciences.

The program is particularly appropriate for persons seeking employment in higher education and for persons seeking career advancement with in the broad scope of health education.

Master of Science in Nutrition

The Nutrition concentration emphasizes nutritional sciences and opportunities to participate in interdisciplinary research in laboratory and community settings. Graduates are prepared for positions as nutritionists in health care and community agencies

Master of Science in Nutrition/Dietetic Internship Program

The combined Master of Science in Nutrition/Dietetic Internship Program is designed to prepare dietetic interns to become entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) with the added strength of a Master of Science in Nutrition.  Throughout the 21-month program, interns will be provided with a professional and academic environment in which to develop the skills needed to become competent in the areas of nutrition therapy, community dietetics, management, business, and leadership.

Speech Language Pathology (M.A.)

Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology

The primary goal for our master's program is the training of competent speech-language pathologists who will critically evaluate communication disorders and the methods used in the habilitation and rehabilitation of those disorders. The curriculum provides information on language disorders of children and adults (including those resulting from cognitive-communicative disorders), communication disorders of those with complex and significant impairments, phonological disorders and disorders of swallowing, voice, rhythm, and hearing. Clinical practicum is provided in both on- and off-campus locations for those seeking clinical licensure and certification in speech-language pathology.

School Health Education (P-12) Additional Licensure Preparation

The School Health Education P-12 Additional Licensure Preparation program is designed for those who already have a bachelor's degree in education and want to add a P-12 health education endorsement to their existing Ohio teaching license. With a focus on comprehensive health education, this program will prepare you to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for healthy living.
