Telepractice

The Speech Pathology and Audiology department hosts a research project studying the efficacy of using a "telepractice" or telehealth service delivery model to provide speech and language therapy services to students in rural Ohio school districts.

Therapy sessions via telepractice are very similar to traditional therapy sessions with the exception that the student interacts with the therapist via video conferencing.

Telepractice therapy services are not intended to replace traditional on-site therapy. Rather, the focus of this project is to demonstrate how speech language therapy services conducted by an ASHA certified, Master's level SLP can be provided to rural schools that are undeserved or are unable to attract a speech- language pathologist to their area.

The project also serves as a clinical enrichment site and speech-language pathology graduate students have the opportunity to learn how to provide services via telehealth.
