Hi, My name is Grace Sherman! I am a junior American Sign Language Interpreting major at 5X社区 with a double minor in Disability Studies and Communication Studies. I am the acting president of the ASL Club and work at the Instructional Recourse Center on campus. I am originally from Pennsylvania and grew up there with my family of 6. I first was introduced to American Sign Language by my mom's career, she has been employed by many school districts to work with their neurodivergent, deaf, or blind students and is now a Social Worker. We both began working at the Special Olympics, Autism Conference, Deaf/Blind Conference, and Low Incidents Conference and fell in love with it. I started taking ASL Classes in high school and knew that once I graduated, I wanted to be an interpreter. I found Kent State and knew it was the perfect fit and has helped me achieve all my goals since I began!
Hello, my name is Andrew Wilson! I am a sophomore American Sign Language/English Interpreting major at 5X社区 with a double minor in Theatre Sound and Disability Studies. I currently work an on-campus job at Kent State鈥檚 TechHelp Service and Repair Center. I was born and raised in Maryland, just outside of Annapolis, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. While growing up, I had exposure to American Sign Language through various family friends. It was not until high school where I began my study of the language. Taking dual-enrollment classes at my local community college and frequently attending signing events in my area, ASL quickly began to cement its place within my life. When it came time to look for colleges, the KSU interpreting program checked each of my boxes. Alongside the exceptional ASEI faculty, Kent State has far exceeded my expectations and continues to provide me with endless opportunities for both personal and academic growth.
