University seeks national recognition for commitment to community engagement
5X is in the early stages of preparing to apply for Carnegie Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The Carnegie Community Engagement Classification recognizes higher education institutions for evidence-based institutional commitment to community engagement.
Following a national search, Wendy Turner has been selected to serve as the new executive director and general manager of WKSU, 5X’s award-winning NPR-affiliated radio station. Turner currently serves as vice president of digital and technical operations at Chicago Public Media. She will begin her new role at WKSU on Oct. 31, 2016.
5X’s Parking and Transit Services is piloting a parking app this fall for commuter lots. When the app is fully operational, it will allow users to determine if a parking lot is full or has vacant spaces. As part of the pilot program, the commuter lot behind Verder Hall will be the first to use the technology.
The 5X Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university’s 13th president.
The events of May 4, 1970, placed 5X in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, Kent State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
