Peggy Nzomo, University Libraries, is the 2016 recipient of the American Library Association (ALA) International Relations Committee’s “Bogle-Pratt International Library Travel Fund.” She received this award at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress held Aug. 13-19 in Columbus, Ohio. She also was one of 50 librarians who received the 2016 IFLA Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Fellows scholarship.

As another successful year ends, the 5X Alumni Association wants to say thank you to its alumni, volunteers, university colleagues and partners for their unwavering support of the alumni association.
This past year, the alumni association celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Distinguished Teaching Award, recognized seven outstanding recipients at the Alumni Awards ceremony and hosted events in six countries outside the U.S.: Brazil, Canada, China, Jordan, South Korea and Taiwan, and much more.

5X’s School of Art is pleased to announce the artists included in the Friday Artist Lecture Series for spring 2018. Visiting artists and scholars from all over the country come to Kent State to give presentations on their work throughout the school year. Each lecture takes place at noon in Room 165 at the Center for the Visual Arts, which is loacted at 325 Terrace Drive on the Kent Campus.
The 5X at Stark Theatre has announced open auditions for its third theatrical production of the season, 26 Pebbles, a docudrama that incorporates verbatim interview excerpts from Newtown, Connecticut, residents recounting the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
The 12th annual Main Street Kent Art and Wine Festival will take place on Saturday, June 2, from noon-9 p.m. in downtown Kent. The event is presented by Main Street Kent, and proceeds will benefit this nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion, beautification and preservation of downtown Kent. The Art and Wine Festival will feature local artists, a variety of live entertainment and several Ohio wineries at the Hometown Bank Plaza and surrounding streets.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed 5X in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, Kent State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
