Supporting Your Student

As a parent or advocate, your student may seek your help with their financial aid, billing or enrollment. Explore our list of resources as you help them navigate their college journey.

How to Support Your Student

Access and Authorizations You Will Need

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of a student鈥檚 educational records, both financial and academic. FERPA also gives the student鈥檚 parents or guardians the right to review those records if they claim the student as a dependent on their Federal Income Tax Return and if the student provides the required authorizations.

Depending on the information you and your student have discussed sharing, your student will need to take up to three actions to accommodate those needs.

  1. FERPA Authorization
Due to FERPA, we can only discuss items with you regarding your student's account or records if your student has granted you FERPA authorization. This can be completed in FlashLine.

  2. KSUview Access
Through KSUview, your student can grant you permission to view online student account information, such as their financial aid awards, registration status and class schedule. The student can control what information they share with you through FlashLine.

  3. eBill Access
If you need to view your student鈥檚 billing statement or make a payment, your student will need to give you authorization to access their eBill through FlashLine.

For step-by-step instructions, visit the access and authorization videos and FAQs page.

In fact, a student may have limited eligibility when adding classes and may be required to repay all or a portion of aid received depending on when they drop or withdraw from a course. To learn more, visit our Aid Recalculation Due to Enrollment Activities page.
