November Lunch and Learn: Mastering Difficult Conversations

Regardless of the industry, common communication issues arise between co-workers every day. Communication is an art form requiring practice to promote positive outcomes. All too often, we work with individuals who have had few opportunities to improve communication skills.

The November Lunch and Learn workshop, “We Need to Talk…Mastering Difficult Conversations at the Workplace and Beyond,” will teach basic principles for positive communication and give participants opportunities to practice in order to apply those skills both in and outside of the workplace. The workshop will take place on Nov. 6 from noon-1 p.m. in Room 313 at the Kent Student Center.

This month’s presenter, Kelsey Loushin, presents educational programs for various healthcare organizations as well as numerous private companies. Loushin specializes in facilitating coaching for individuals navigating through the eldercare maze. She also provides coaching for leaders and teams to support their cohesiveness and development. She has a B.A. from Kent State in individual and family studies, is a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor (LICDC), certified dementia practitioner (CDP) and a certified 2 Young 2retire facilitator.

The Lunch and Learn programs are sponsored by the Division of Human Resources and are held in conjunction with Impact, the university’s employee assistance program. The hourlong programs are free and open to faculty and staff. However, seating is limited and reservations are required. Employees will have the opportunity to purchase pre-packaged healthy lunches to enjoy during the presentation. If you would like to order a lunch, you must do so before Monday, Nov. 4. This information is available on the registration form. Register here.
