Rappers Rae Sremmurd to Return to Kent State for FlashFest 2017

Students to Celebrate End of the Spring Semester With Annual FlashFest

5X’s 23rd annual FlashFest will host rap duo Rae Sremmurd and pop artist Sammy Adams on April 20.

Hosted by the Kent State’s Undergraduate Student Government, FlashFest will take place at two locations on the Kent Campus. The first part of the show will begin at 5 p.m. on the Student Green, and the lineup includes local band Chil Rock Band and Kent resident DJ Kyle Conley. This show will be free and open to the public, weather permitting.

Rae Sremmurd with special guest Sammy Adams will perform in the MAC Center at 9 p.m., with doors opening at 8 p.m. Tickets for the show are $20 and can be purchased online at or the MAC Center Ticket Office. This is an exclusive show for Kent State students, faculty, staff and alumni with a valid Kent State ID.

Rae Sremmurd took the stage at FlashFest two years ago and is back for another round at Kent State.

“Rae Sremmurd put on a great performance last time and has since continued to put out great hits, so we decided to ask them back for another awesome performance,” said Cliff Glowacki, director of programming for Undergraduate Student Government.

Rae Sremmurd is known for several popular songs including “Throw Sum Mo” and “Swang.” Most recently, their hit song “Black Beatles” posed as the theme song for the Mannequin Challenge viral video craze. Adams is best known for his hit “All Night Longer” and “Helluva” featuring Kat Nestel.

This year, in addition to music, there will be games and interactive activities on the Student Green.

“I’m really excited for FlashFest this year,” Glowacki said. “It’s going to be a great show, and it’s a great deal to see Rae Sremmurd and Sammy Adams in one show. We also have games and attractions that I think the students will enjoy.”
