University Diversity Action Council Appreciates Members at Honorary Luncheon

Nine members of the University Diversity Action Council (UDAC) received Certificates of Appreciation for their outstanding work and contributions to UDAC at a recognition ceremony held in April.

UDAC, part of the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Kent State, is made up of units, including Institutional Climate; Culture and Community Relationships; Student Access, Recruitment, Retention and Success; Education and Scholarship; and Institutional Accountability; in addition to the Inclusion Action Movement. 

Dean Tondiglia, associate director of public safety for the Kent State Police Department and one of the UDAC members responsible for the recognition ceremony, says everyone on the team works hard and contributes to the council.

“These are the people that did exceptional work in their areas,” says Tondiglia.

The UDAC honorees are listed below with their committees.

Institutional Climate, Culture and Community Relationships
Sue Clement, assistant professor of geology, 5X at Geauga
Trinidy Jeter, program coordinator, Student Multicultural Center

Student Access, Recruitment, Retention and Success
Terra Ndubuizu, administration and operations director, University Communications and Marketing

Education and Scholarship
Bethany Simunich, associate director for online learning, Pedagogical Support
Katheryn McAnulty, director of graduate student services, Graduate Studies

Institutional Accountability
Stina Olafsdottir, manager of student accounts receivable, Bursar’s Office
Michquel Penn, police officer 2, Police Department

Inclusion Action Movement
Katharine Sorokas, graduate student, College of Education, Health and Human Services, and residence hall director
Elsa Barletta Gonzalez, diversity research analyst, Planning, Assessment and Research Management

“It was great to see the work we do acknowledged,” says Barletta Gonzalez.

Ndubuizu says she was surprised by the recognition event and was happy to receive a Certificate of Appreciation for her contributions to the council. 

“It’s nice to be recognized for hard work done behind the scenes,” Ndubuizu says.

Members of UDAC consist of Kent State students, faculty, staff and administrators from a wide range of disciplines, job categories and divisional units. All eight Kent State campuses are represented, and the council meets monthly. During the 2011-2012 Academic Year, UDAC provided input for the Equity Action Plan and aided in developing the aforementioned diversity mission, vision, values and action statements. UDAC will provide leadership and oversight in implementing and assessing the Equity Action Plan.
