The interdisciplinary program is a cooperative endeavor of the departments of Africana Studies, Anthropology and Geography.

Minor in Studies in Globalization, Identity and Space

5X社区's Minor in Studies in Globalization, Identity, and Space offers students an interdisciplinary examination of the complex relationships between global processes, individual and collective identities, and the spaces we inhabit. The program explores key themes such as migration, transnationalism, cultural identity, and the social, political, and economic impacts of globalization. Students develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of how global forces shape personal and communal experiences in different regions. This minor complements a wide range of majors, preparing graduates for careers in international relations, urban planning, social advocacy, and cultural studies, as well as for navigating the increasingly interconnected world.

Students may petition to substitute a relevant course in some discipline other than Africana studies, anthropology or geography for one of the designated electives.

  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be upper-division coursework (30000 and 40000 level).
  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be outside of the course requirements for any major or other minor the student is pursuing.
  • Minimum 50 percent of the total credit hours for the minor must be taken at Kent State (in residence).
Admissions for Studies in Globalization, Identity and Space - Minor

Admission Requirements

The Studies in Globalization, Identity and Space minor is not accepting students at this time.

Admission to a minor is open to students declared in a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.B. or A.A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree (not Individualized Program major). Students declared only in the A.A. or A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree in Individualized Program may not declare a minor. Students may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.
