Transfer Hours

Students who are admitted or were previously admitted as a guest or non-degree or who have a previous graduate degree (master's, Educational Specialist, or Ph.D.) and are not currently seeking another graduate degree may transfer a maximum of 6 credit hours with advisor approval. Therefore, a total of six hours of transfer credits may be used toward the certificate requirements, whether from another institution or taken at KSU before admission to the certificate program.

Current Degree-Seeking Students

Students who are currently in a degree program (master's, Educational Specialist, or Ph.D.) may also apply to a certificate program.  Their degree-seeking coursework may be applied to the certificate coursework with advisor approval.  The courses must be completed within six years and satisfy certificate course requirements. 

General Requirements

  1. Certificates must be completed within six years after the first graduate enrollment.
  2. No more than 2 hours of a workshop may be used toward a certificate.
  3. Before being eligible to be awarded a Certificate, students must be admitted to the Certificate program.

Salem BSN students prepare for learning in clinical settings

Kent State at Salem held its White Coat Ceremony for students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, signifying a rite of passage as they transition into the nursing field. Fifteen sophomore BSN students each received a white coat that helps establish their 鈥減rofessional identity鈥 and coincides with the beginning of training in clinical settings. The White Coat Ceremony was established in 1993 at Columbia University by the Gold Foundation as a way to highlight the importance of humanism in caring for patients by those training to become healthcare professionals. Making Meaning of May 4

Dr. Laura Davis, a 5X社区 professor emerita and eyewitness to the May 4, 1970, shootings, co-directs the "Making Meaning of May 4" workshop, which educates middle and high school teachers on the historical significance of the event and its contemporary relevance. The program aims to equip educators with the tools to develop curriculum that connects the lessons of May 4 to current societal issues.
