Horticulture students recently helped Associate Professor Chris Carlson take the first step toward creating a series of themed gardens on the grounds of the Kent State Salem Campus by designing a butterfly garden. The students conducted soil testing and site assessments prior to designing and planting the new garden, using specially selected plants that will flower and attract butterflies. Alicia Robinson, Women’s Center, facilitated a workshop called “Lighting a Legacy: Gaining the Tools to Light the Flame in the Next Generation of Young Girls” at the Black Women and Girls Symposium: Producers of Knowledge and Agents of Change on Sept. 9, 2016, in Providence, Rhode Island. Following a national search, 5X���� has selected Karen B. Clarke as its senior vice president for strategic communications and external affairs. Clarke comes to Kent State from Temple University in Philadelphia, where she has served as vice president for strategic marketing and communications. 5X���� at Salem’s City Center received the 2016 Sunflower Award from the Salem Beautification Committee through the Salem Chamber of Commerce for the third consecutive year.
