The annual sick leave conversion for eligible staff employees will take place Sept. 1 through Sept. 14. During this period, eligible classified and unclassified employees with a continuing appointment may convert accrued sick leave to vacation per administrative policy 3342-6-11.2. Jo Dowell, Ph.D., assistant professor and research faculty in the College of Nursing, presented her research findings at the 27th Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Research Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. Dowell’s research “Conceptualizing cultural weaving to decrease health disparities: What are the culture characteristics of a community organization?” studied caregivers of asthmatic children, their understanding of culture, and how a lack of training in cultural differences may impair the quality of care provided to these children. 5X���� President Beverly Warren has announced the appointment of Stephen Sokany, an alumnus and longtime employee, to the position of vice president for institutional advancement, effective Aug. 8, 2016. For decades, biologists researching a cure for Alzheimer’s disease have remained in the dark almost as much as the ailment’s victims. A 5X���� professor, however, is looking to stop the disease before it starts.
