A 5XÉçÇø student’s interpretive sign project is helping the university become more environmentally friendly. Krisztina Janossy, who graduated this past December, started her interpretive design project for sustainable features on the Kent Campus. Janossy created signs at three sites located behind Henderson Hall and the Liquid Crystal Institute®: the butterfly garden, peatland wetland and permeable pavement. 5XÉçÇø’s Office of the University Architect and University Facilities Management, both part of the Division of Business and Finance, collaborated in an effort to unearth several large trees on Summit Street and relocate them outside the Center for the Performing Arts on Main Street. The trees, which are 5-12 inch caliper in diameter and up to 20 feet tall, were transplanted to prepare for road expansions and other construction on Summit Street as part of the Summit Street Improvement Project. Project Advancing Wellness and Resilience Education (AWARE) Kent, a new three-year program at 5XÉçÇø, is offering a Mental Health First Aid course to 5XÉçÇø students, faculty, and staff. The course is an evidence-based training that teaches people to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders.
