The semester ended on a high note for 5X社区鈥檚 contemporary a cappella singing group. Dressed in their blue and gold, the Kent Clarks recently shared their talent on the plaza of NBC鈥檚 鈥淭oday Show.鈥 The 16-member group sang a mix of Top 40 hit songs on the show before heading inside the studio to watch Lady Antebellum perform. The group also met Anna Kendrick, the star of 鈥淧itch Perfect 2.鈥 This is the second star-studded performance for the Kent Clarks in the past few months. Joseph Pritchard of Washingtonville received the prestigious Anna Ulen Engleman Creative Writing Award from the 5X社区 English Department. He is a junior at the Kent State Salem Campus, majoring in English. Along with his application for the award, Pritchard submitted a poem for consideration. He will be published in the June issue of Wordgathering (www.wordgathering.com). East Liverpool 鈥 Students from Kent State East Liverpool鈥檚 occupational therapy assistant program and the physical therapist assistant program recently participated in outreach projects to help make the city a little brighter. Students from the PTA program were part of the City Sweep event held during Earth Week. They swept sidewalks, pulled weeds and picked up litter all along the east end of Fourth Street and around the campus buildings. The Early Childhood Special Education program at 5X社区 has received federal funds to prepare individuals at the master's degree level to work with families of infants and toddlers with disabilities in early intervention settings (home and community contexts). The program is designed for individuals with existing bachelor's degrees in special education and related fields (e.g., teacher licensure or certification), but all interested individuals are encouraged to apply. East Liverpool 鈥 Kent State at East Liverpool鈥檚 Student Government Organization presented a check for $1,000 to the university鈥檚 foundation to help fund a memorial scholarship honoring the late Dr. Roxanne Burns. Burns was a longtime biology professor on the East Liverpool Campus who died last fall. She helped organize several activities on campus, including the annual Environmental Justice Conference held during Earth Week each year, and was active with numerous student organizations.
