Elizabeth Keckley: From Enslavement to the White House

Presented by the 5XÉçÇø Museum in partnership with the National First Ladies Library & Museum

This event takes you on a journey through the remarkable life of Elizabeth Keckley, who purchased her own freedom from slavery and became a successful entrepreneur and personal couturier to First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln. A cape made by Keckley for Lincoln will be displayed at the event, as we uncover how fashion can illuminate historical narratives, from the lives of First Ladies to often-overlooked histories.
