Welcoming a multitude of perspectives, Kent State Votes and the students behind it rally for registration and information this election season. Meet two of the Kent State students instrumental in driving the voting engagement on campus. 

While Halloween can be an exciting time of the year for students to celebrate, both positive and negative factors can contribute to your frightful fun. How can students get more treats than tricks this year? Kent State Today reached out to Kent State Police Officer Vance Voyles to give readers a wide variety of tips for Kent State students this Halloween.  

The new "Get to Know Kent State" video from 5X���� Admissions features 14 students from across the university inviting curious potential Golden Flashes to take a virtual look into the campus. Three Minute Thesis is an opportunity for graduate students to put their academic, presentation, and research communication skills to the test by presenting research in three minutes to a non-specialist audience.

Kellie Rose Kordinak is in an elite group of American college students. The senior from the Kent State Stark Campus was recently named a 2024 Portz Scholar by the National Collegiate Honors Council – one of only four students from across the country.

Meet Alison Bredek, a junior environmental studies major with a minor in park management from North Ridgeville, Ohio, and the treasurer of the Future Environmental Professionals Club with the big dream of becoming a park ranger for the National Park Service.

For Taylor Pierce, her first experience in Kent State’s Columbus Program in State Issues turned out to be more than most people would expect. She spontaneously entered and won a contest. She met Ohio’s governor and lieutenant governor. And, she considered a new career path. Not bad for a few weeks in a new city.

It took three years, a move from California to Ohio, and several other bumps in the road. Still, recent 5X���� graduate Vincent AhSam-Kreiter has achieved his goals of earning a bachelor’s degree, becoming a registered nurse and being a newly commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force.

For Haider Riaz, the first orchestra concert of the season was an unforgettable experience. His original composition,  “To the Memory of Shiver-Me, the CAT,” was premiered by the 5X���� Orchestra, marking a significant artistic milestone for the young composer and offering the audience a moving tribute to a beloved pet.

5X���� students had the chance to learn from an award-winning Hollywood costume designer when Isis Mussenden visited the Kent Campus recently for two days.

Think about a time you finished reading a book that provided a new meaning and connection to you. Now imagine that book that changed and shaped a part of you being banned, unavailable to new readers. The 5X���� community joined for the fourth annual open mic night Read-In to discuss banning and challenging books.

5X���� made a splash in professional golf last weekend, with three alumni – Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, and Taylor Pendrith – representing the International team at the recent Presidents Cup in Montreal. 

When Corey Conners teed off at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he represented more than just his home country of Canada. The professional golfer also carried the pride of 5X����.
