Reflecting on Progress and Achievements This Fall

As I write this letter, progress continues on Crawford Hall as the brick and glass are being installed. It has been an amazing process to watch this large building emerge on front campus. Faculty, staff and students drive down the now reconnected Terrace Drive daily to see the progress being made on the building, knowing that the new year will bring the completion of this project. My thanks go to the many generous donors who supported Crawford Hall, including Jim and Evelyn Unger, whom you can read about below.

I am pleased to share the news that Professor Kathy Wilson, Ph.D., in the Department of Economics was one of three faculty members this year to receive the Distinguished Teaching Award from the Kent State Alumni Association. This award is considered the top teaching recognition at 5XÉçÇø. She is a deserving recipient of this honor.

Each fall, the John S. and Marlene J. Brinzo Center for Entrepreneurship hosts its annual Idea Pitch competition sponsored by the Ohio Innovation Fund. This year there were eight student businesses in the final round of competition. The winner received funding and a spot in the Spring Pitch Competition which will take place in April.

The Kent State chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon, the sales and marketing professional fraternity, successfully competed at local, regional and international competitions this year. Students brought home numerous awards, including being named the first Gold Level Chapter in the nation this year. Details about these awards and recognitions for the team are provided below.

As I reflect on this semester, I am delighted with the progress made on Crawford Hall and proud of the recognitions received by Kent State business faculty and students. With gratitude for all who have made these accomplishments possible, I wish you happy holidays and a peaceful and prosperous new year.
