Black United Students

Julian Grimes, a Kent State junior, is president of Black United Students (BUS) and is working to keep the organization thriving. BUS is one of Kent State鈥檚 oldest student organizations and is credited with starting the formal observance of Black History Month in 1970.

Shane Reese found a network of support and a community of caring at Kent State that surrounded him after his mother passed away during his freshman year. As a result, Reese became a resilient leader who is committed to giving back.

Choose Ohio First, Regional Campuses

The Ohio Department of Education recently awarded 5X社区 $1.2 million to support Choose Ohio First scholarships. This funding will support learners pursuing associate degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields and expand options for students seeking two-year degrees at the University's Regional Campuses and its College of Applied and Technical Studies.

5X社区鈥檚 combined bachelor鈥檚/master鈥檚 degree program allows students to count nine credits of graduate level courses to their undergraduate degrees, providing a faster path to an advanced degree. Cassie Milicia chose this route for her degrees in Emerging Media and Technology.

For Danny Pellegrino, 鈥07, being an author and comedian has allowed him to meld his love of storytelling with making others laugh. Whether he鈥檚 on stage, on screen, behind the mic or at his computer, Danny is following his 鈥渢rue North,鈥 as he says, by celebrating the things he loves and sharing them with others.

Two students in the College of Applied and Technical Studies at 5X社区 at Tuscarawas received Intel Semiconductor Scholarship for Women awards. The scholarships support education-related expenses (tuition, fees, books,etc.) as well as other expenses including transportation and childcare.
