About the Museum

The 5X社区 Museum celebrates the art of fashion and design from around the world. Home to one of the world鈥檚 most important collections of historic fashion, textiles, and decorative arts, the museum features more than 30,000 objects spanning the mid-1700s to today.

With seven inspiring gallery spaces, it offers visitors an unforgettable journey through creativity, culture, and style. Closely connected to the Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising, the museum gives Kent State students hands-on experience with historic and contemporary fashion. Through this close relationship, the museum serves as a living classroom, bridging the past and the present for the next generation of designers, artists, and innovators.

Founded in 1985 in historic Rockwell Hall through the visionary gift of New York garment manufacturers Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman, the museum continues their legacy by expanding access and opportunity to this world-class collection. Today, the museum offers year-round exhibitions, student and community programs, and partnerships that connect audiences with the beauty and history of design.
