5X社区 and the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship celebrated the grand opening of Crawford Hall on Sept. 27, attended by more than 700 guests, including university leadership, faculty, students, donors, alumni and dignitaries. An uplifting mental health promotion and suicide prevention event for college students that aims to create an approachable and hopeful atmosphere where students are encouraged to engage in dialogue about mental health. Event includes interactive expo booths, peer-to-peer messaging, support of multiple campus departments and groups, free food, entertainment, exciting prizes and giveaways. This event serves as an annual kickoff to Mental Health Awareness Month.

There is a new 鈥 and modern 鈥 way for students on the Kent State Salem and East Liverpool campuses to get advice from a mental health expert: the Minutes 4 Mental Health podcast.Penny Minor, Ph.D., is the counseling specialist for the Columbiana County campuses who hosts a weekly podcast that she launched at the beginning of the semester. The College of Education, Health and Human Services regretfully reports that on September 25, James M. Kauffman (1940-2024), the namesake of the Badar-Kauffman Conference (BKC), passed away in Afton, Virginia. He was 83.In 2016, Jim Kauffman and his wife Jeanmarie Badar made a donation to the special education program at Kent State to start an annual speaker series. The initial donation was a little over $10,000. Jim was a titan in the world of special education and special education research.
