An abstract eye for film, creative camera work and a feminist mindset are all factors that make up Kent State alumna Ailene Joven, 鈥21. As a digital media production student, she began creating the short film 鈥淒efine鈥 during the early days of COVID-19.

Runway of Dreams at Kent State was founded in the spring of 2021 by current president Bri Cummings, a senior fashion design and fashion merchandising major. The club partners with the Runway of Dreams Foundation to raise awareness of the need for adaptive clothing.

Alfreda Brown, Ph.D., was Kent State's first vice president for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

When she came to 5X社区 in October 2009, Alfreda Brown Ph.D., made history by becoming the first person ever to lead a university division dedicated completely to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.  

As vice president for the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Brown served as a powerful voice for making sure no one in the university鈥檚 wide-reaching system was marginalized, discriminated against or left behind. 

Who Runs the World: Experiences of Gender, Race, and Power in Graduate School

Women represent nearly 60% of students in graduate or professional degree programs; however, they are still a minority in certain STEM fields like engineering and computer science. The Graduate College celebrated women鈥檚 history month by tackling this tough topic head-on.

Coming out: Dolores Noll, Women's History Month

A trailblazer for LGBTQ+ rights, the late Dolores Noll, Ph.D., was one of 5X社区鈥檚 first openly gay professors when she came out in 1971.
