Center for Advanced Air Mobility
5X社区 is excited to announce the establishment of the Center for Advanced Air Mobility (CAAM) within the College of Aeronautics and Engineering. This cutting-edge center serves as a hub of innovation, research, and collaboration, bringing together faculty, staff, students, and external partners from government, academia, and industry to address the transformative field of advanced air mobility.
What is Advanced Air Mobility?
Advanced air mobility represents a groundbreaking integration of autonomous aircraft technology into the national airspace and the global economy. It aims to revolutionize low-level air transportation by providing safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions for passenger and cargo transport. Kent State's Center for Advanced Air Mobility is at the forefront of this emergent field, focusing on sustainability, clean energy, and the advancement of key technologies.
Driving Innovation and Collaboration
At the Center for Advanced Air Mobility, a multidisciplinary community of researchers and practitioners will collaborate to tackle the challenges and opportunities presented by advanced air mobility. Through robust research and test endeavors, the center will drive technological advancements, contribute to policy development, and establish crucial partnerships that propel the industry forward.
A Catalyst for Research and Workforce Development
The center's primary mission is to foster research, test, and development in advanced air mobility. By establishing strategic partnerships and collaborations, the center will provide unique opportunities for workforce development in this rapidly growing industry. Students and researchers will gain hands-on experience, expand their knowledge of key technologies and systems, and become leaders in the field of advanced air mobility.
Shaping the Future of Air Transportation
Kent State's Center for Advanced Air Mobility will actively contribute to gather data to inform rulemaking and policy that govern this emerging industry on a local and national scale. It will serve as a prominent hub for expertise, working towards the transfer and dissemination of knowledge, fostering innovation, and driving advancements that will shape the future of air transportation.
Join us at the forefront of this transformative field, where sustainability, innovation, and collaboration converge. Kent State's Center for Advanced Air Mobility is poised to lead the way in advancing the integration of autonomous aircraft technology, making a lasting impact on the future of air mobility.
Workshops
The first Ohio AAM Higher Education Workshop , "Advanced Air Mobility Capabilities: Mapping Areas for Collaborations," was held at our Kent campus on October 26, 2023. The conference proceeding can be found . This workshop explored the implementation of a community-driven collaborative approach for workforce development and research addressing awareness of opportunities for K-12 and upskilling the current workforce for new career paths. Future workshops will incorporate hands-on opportunities as part of the curriculum and include revisions to incorporate new knowledge, technologies, regulations, and policies for certification.
CAAM Command and Control Center
The CAAM Command and Control Center (CCC) provides a mobile facility for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) where the pilot is no longer able to observe the aircraft with the naked eye. BVLOS enables drones to fly long linear distances and cover larger areas, expanding their potential applications. This is achieved through the integration of advanced technologies such as cellular command and control (C2), sophisticated logic, and robust collision-avoidance systems. The CCC includes redundant computer and power systems with extended communications capabilities in order to ensure safe and controlled flight.
CAAM Director Dr. Rub茅n Del Rosario
Dr. Rub茅n Del Rosario serves the College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) as Director, Center for Advanced Air Mobility and Professor. In these roles, he will facilitate the continuing development of the Center for Advanced Air Mobility (CAAM) as the premiere venue for faculty and students to engage and utilize the center鈥檚 recognition and successes to bring to them additional opportunities while capitalizing on the CAE鈥檚 capability to deliver hands-on, real-world experience for its students, preparing them for the future of AAM.
