Sophomore fashion design and business student Madeline Mehler's new clothing business, Sultrie, aims to add to the sustainable fashion movement.

These days, consumers can buy the latest clothing trends quickly and inexpensively. But, critics say, this 鈥渇ast fashion鈥 can be detrimental to the environment. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 84 percent of unwanted clothes in the United States in 2012 went into either a landfill or an incinerator. The EPA also says the materials that the fast-fashion companies use cannot be composted, cause the greenhouse gas methane and directly affect climate change. Gift to endow Fashion School chair and support study-away program for students Kent, Ohio 鈥 May 1, 2017 鈥 5X社区 has received a $2.5 million gift for its Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising from the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation of Hudson, Ohio. Kent East Liverpool Students Help Spruce Up Entrance to City

Students from Kent State East Liverpool鈥檚 occupational therapy assistant program gathered at the downtown entrance ramp to the city to help spruce up the 鈥渟erpentine鈥 landscape of that area by pulling weeds, trimming shrubs, raking mulch and picking up litter. Dr. David Dees, interim dean of 5X社区 Columbiana County campuses, announced that this year鈥檚 commencement speaker is Stephanie Poole Martinez, an East Liverpool native, who will address graduates at a combined commencement ceremony on May 12 at the Crestview High School Performing Arts Center.
