Three 5X���� men's golfers, Ian Holt, Chase Johnson and Tyler McHugh, are competing in the 116th U.S. Amateur Championship at the Oakland Hills Country Club. The seven day USGA event runs from Aug. 15-21. Started in 1895, the tournament is the oldest USGA championship. Some of golf's most illustrious names have won the tournament over the years, including Bobby Jones, Chick Evans, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. 5X���� will hold its Summer 2016 Commencement ceremony for the Kent Campus on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). Kent State will confer 1,455 degrees, including 917 bachelor’s degrees, 440 master’s degrees, 75 doctoral degrees and 23 educational specialist degrees. The annual sick leave conversion for eligible staff employees will take place Sept. 1 through Sept. 14. During this period, eligible classified and unclassified employees with a continuing appointment may convert accrued sick leave to vacation per administrative policy 3342-6-11.2. Jo Dowell, Ph.D., assistant professor and research faculty in the College of Nursing, presented her research findings at the 27th Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Research Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. Dowell’s research “Conceptualizing cultural weaving to decrease health disparities: What are the culture characteristics of a community organization?” studied caregivers of asthmatic children, their understanding of culture, and how a lack of training in cultural differences may impair the quality of care provided to these children.
