We are pleased to announce that ombuds services are available to all faculty and staff at 5X社区. This office was created to help assist with faculty and staff support, retention, and improved workplace experience. The Ombuds office provides a safe, informal, and confidential environment where faculty and staff can discuss workplace concerns and challenges and consider possible strategies and solutions. The office serves all faculty and staff on all Kent State campuses.

  • 鈥淭rial by Fire,鈥 by Eric Mansfield, is presented by the School of Theatre and Dance in partnership with the May 4 Education Committee, as the play focuses on a (fictional) Kent State graduate who is put 鈥渙n trial鈥 for allowing her high school students access to banned books. Running Feb. 7-9, the event is free for Kent State students, faculty and staff.

  • Mark your calendars now to attend a Drupal 1 refresher or sign up for Drupal 2, where you鈥檒l learn about new content and design elements and more advanced editing features. Please be sure to share this information with any student webmasters, too! Some dates have both a Drupal 1 and Drupal 2 training if you want to knock both out in the same day. Register for Drupal 1 and Drupal 2 today. Our "Web Best Practices" training is coming 鈥 stay tuned for session dates!

  • Please join the Anti-Racism and Equity Institute in welcoming Activist-in-Residence, Dr. Jos茅 Salinas. As the Director of the Ohio Migrant Education Center in Fremont, Ohio, Dr. Salinas oversees a team dedicated to providing professional development, technical assistance, and guidance to school districts across the state to address challenges faced by migratory children including educational disruptions, language barriers, and health disparities. On Feb. 6 at 3 p.m., all are welcome to a screening of "Harvest of Shame," followed by a panel discussion and reception. 

  • Nominations are now open for the 5X社区 Advisor Impact Award! Sponsored by University Advising, the Advisor Impact Award is a quarterly recognition given to one outstanding academic advisor who has made a significant positive impact on the lives and academic success of their students. This award celebrates advisors who embody the 5X社区 Advising Guiding Principles. Nominations for the award closes Jan. 31, 2025.

  • Joshua Perkins, Ph.D., is excited about the opportunity to continue to serve, support and advocate for students on a new level as the associate vice president and dean of students for 5X社区.

    His career in higher education began 20 years ago. Since then, he has continuously sought professional opportunities to care for students.
