Greta Babakhanova

As if graduating with your Ph.D., starting a National Research Council (NRC) postdoctoral fellowship, getting married in Nepal and organizing an international research seminar wasn鈥檛 already a full plate for 5X社区 doctoral student Greta Babakhanova, how about a little dessert?

Knight scholars

Eight 5X社区 students received scholarships from the Akron Press Club and John S. Knight Memorial Scholarship Fund in April, totaling $40,000 in awards. College of Communication and Information students won eight of the nine awards given by the Akron Press Club this year.

Bethany Westphal is a very busy person. Like most seniors, Ms. Westphal spends her time doing school work and preparing for graduation in May. But, at the same time, she also runs the full-time business she started herself.

Megan Schinker, a senior at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, participated in the College Credit Plus Science Experience Internship Program at 5X社区's Department of Geology.

Imagine being a 17-year-old high school student, and in your first semester of a geology research internship, your professor asks you to identify an extinct 300-million-year-old, tiny and unknown crustacean specimen. Megan Schinker, then an ambitious Stow-Munroe Falls High School junior, jumped right in. Now a senior in high school, Ms. Schinker, chose Kent State as her undergraduate school where she will pursue a double major in geology and chemistry starting fall 2019.
