Netflix has released a movie trailer and still photos, including a picture showing a scene in the Kent Student Center, from the upcoming feature film "White Noise," which was filmed last year across Northeast Ohio, including scenes shot on the Kent Campus.
According to , the movie "dramatizes a contemporary American family's attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world."
Directed by Noah Baumbach, "White Noise" will be released on Dec. 30, and stars Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig and Don Cheadle.
Among the still photos released promoting the film is a shot of Cheadle and Driver inside the dining room on the second floor of the Kent Student Center. Netflix rented the room and some adjacent spaces for about a week in summer 2021 to film key scenes for the movie. Filming also took place in several other Northeast Ohio communities.
Location scouts said they were drawn to the unique light fixtures offered in that space in the Kent Student Center, as the setting would be part of the movie's plot. Crews painted the walls and redesigned the space to accommodate filming needs, and then the walls were repainted to return the room to its original look and feel.
"White Noise" received the Green Drop Award and was a nominee for Best Film at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, according to IMDB.
Baumbach has been nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Original Screenplay for 2020's "Marriage Story."
